Staff Reporter,

RAIPUR,

Large number of party workers from Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) led by State Convener Pappu Baghel were arrested by police while trying to gherao the official residence of Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra. Police detained them near Kabir chowk and took all of them to Raipur Central Jail annex. However, all the party workers were unconditionally released after two hours. During the agitation and subsequent arrest of the party workers minor scuffles were reported between the workers and police personnel.

The party workers of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) were agitating against the suspension orders issued by State Government to Deputy Jailor Varsha Dongre and on the plight of tribals in Bastar. They demanded immediate reinstatement of Dongre and stop alleged atrocities against the tribals in Bastar. Later they submitted a memorandum in the name of Home Minister to the competent authority.

Talking to media persons, JCC State Convener Pappu Baghel said atrocities are meted against local government employees and cited examples of Varsha Dongre, Rajkumar Dewangan, compulsory retirement to 16 judges earlier, termination of former Judge Prabhakar Gwal, etc.

In the last 13 years of Bharatiya Janata Party rule in the state the conditions of tribals in the State have become worst, they alleged.
