Man held for extorting money from contractor

KHARANGANA Police arrested a person from Pulai in Wardha district in the late hours of Saturday in an extortion case who was collecting money in the name of State Environment Minister regarding Sand Ghat auction in Chandur (Rly). Malabar Hill Police arrested a typist with the office of State Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam in this regard.


As per details, Gajanan Khandar, a resident of Chandur(Rly) had acquired the rights to excavate sand during auction at Bhikuji Maharaj Sansthan premises. Thereafter, one Mahesh Sawant, a typist from the office of Ramdas Kadam, State Environment Minister started demanding the extortion money of Rs 10 lakh from Gajanan Khandar for last two months. He also threatened to initiate enquiry against Khandar by mentioning the name of Ramdas Kadam.


A complaint was registered with Malbar Hill Police in this regard and the cops arrested Mahesh Sawant.
During the interrogation, it was revealed the involvement of other persons in the case.


Meanwhile, Kharangana Police arrested one Manoj Manvatkar, resident of Pulai in Wardha district and Sawant’s companion from Pulai while accepting Rs.50,000 from the saidcontractor.
Under the guidance of Nirmaladevi S, District Superintendent of Police, Wardha and Chinmay Pandit, Additional Superintendent of Police, Prashant Pande, PI of Kharangana and his subordinates and Malabar Hill Police Station’s PSI Patil and his team made the arrest.
