Two involved in betting nabbed

KHURSIPAR police raided a house and nabbed two in connection with cricket betting in Balaji Nagar, Khursipar, Bhilai on Saturday night. The police arrested the accused on criminal charges and also recovered cash at stake along with gambling paraphernalia from their possession.


Police sources informed that the accused were identified as Harjeet Singh (24) and Navin Agrawal (29), both residents of Kranti Market, Zone-3, Khursipar, Bhilai. The police said that at about 10:30 pm on Saturday, after a tip of Khursipar police constituted a special team and raided the house in Balaji Nagar, Khursipar, Bhilai wherein the accused were betting on cricket matches.

The police also recovered cash at stake Rs 6,500 and gambling paraphernalia including an LCD, two expensive mobile phones etc. from possession of the accused duo. The complaints were pouring in from the areas regarding cricket betting and while acting in the matter the police raided the gambling den and caught the accused red handed. The regular patrolling and vigil in the police station limits would be continued to effectively check the gambling practice, the police said. The police have registered the offence against the accused under section 4 (A) of Gambling Act for indulging in the criminal act of gambling.
