IML celebrates its 27th Raising Day

The Institute is one of its kind in entire Asia. It trains Defence Service officers in Military and allied laws. The Institute was inaugurated at Kamptee way back on May 16, 1990

The Institute of Military Law (IML), the alma-mater of Judge Advocate General’s Department the Indian Army, celebrated its 27th Raising Day on Tuesday with great zeal and fervor.
The Institute is one of its kind in entire Asia. It trains Defence Service officers in Military and allied laws. The Institute was inaugurated at Kamptee way back on May 16, 1990 by Maj Gen A B Gorthi, AVSM, VSM, the then Judge Advocate General (Army). Institute of Military Law was given permanency on December 23, 2016.


Maj Gen Rajinder Kumar, AVSM, SM, VSM, Judge Advocate General, visited the Institute of Military Law on Tuesday. The General officer interacted with faculty and staff and also addressed the student-officers, who are senior officers with
eight-nine years of service.

He enjoined upon them to work harder, do meticulous research, and render correct legal
advice to Commanders with regards to discipline and court cases so that military justice was duly administered and stood the scrutiny of law.


IML also hosted Judges of Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench, eminent lawyers, senior military officers, and civil dignitaries at the Raising Day’s evening function organised at Institute of Military law Officers’ Mess.
