Business Bureau,

NAGPUR Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) recently started construction of its East West Corridor having total length of 18.557 km which passes through busy Central Avenue thereby causing parking concerns as traffic police started restrictions of no parking and booking vehicles on violations.

Taking this issue with some suggestions and recommendations a delegation of Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) led by its President J P Sharma met Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of NMRCL and discussed the issue in length and also submitted memorandum.

Sharma congratulated Brijesh Dixit and entire team of NMRCL for ongoing speedy work of Nagpur Metro under his talented command. He also suggested that work on busy Central Avenue requires certain coordination amongst citizens, NMRCL, NMC and Nagpur Traffic Police for problem free execution of work and timely completion of this portion of the project.

Tejinder Singh Renu, Secretary of VTA said that practically all buildings on Central Avenue were constructed well before 1990 and Development Control Regulations before 1990 did not have parking provisions for any sort of buildings as it was considered that parking on road is good enough. Hence, no building on Central Avenue has parking and thus vehicles are parked on road sides.

Renu admitted that road side parking on Central Avenue has to be shifted so that road width is somewhat sufficient after Metro barricades on road centre are erected for construction activity. It was therefore recommended that parking should be permitted on footpath and front margin of the buildings which would not compromise on road movement on Central Avenue. “We request NMRCL to coordinate accordingly with NMC and Traffic Police for smooth execution of work in coordination with citizens,” Renu said.

Dixit assured that soon one meeting of VTA, NMRCL and citizens of Central Avenue would be called for suggestions. Dixit said that he will personally attend the proposed meeting for smoother coordination.
