Staff Reporter,

About the issue of sheer neglect on the part of JMC on the issue of transposing existing street lights has inadvertently forced the municipal administration to pay high power bill to MPSEB

Talking exclusively to ‘The Hitavada’, Naveen Kumar Lonarey, Executive Engineer Light Department, JMC confessed that, had they been able to transpose all existing street lights by LED would have brought reduction of power bill by at least 50percent of the present power bill being deposited to the MPSEB

Apparently Jabalpur city has been selected among the much hyped and talked smart city concept however, the municipal corporation seems to be sparsely unaware of the power saving eco friendly mode by virtue of street light arrangement existing across the municipal jurisdiction. As it now there are around 30,000 street light within the ambit of JMC. Irony of the situation is that despite the fact LED bulb are considered to be highly eco friendly and power saving with long sustainability.

The JMC at present juncture has managed to transpose merely 6,500 street lights with LED against the total number of street lights and is still compelled to pay high electricity bill against street light being consumed or else there would have been reduction by at least 50 per cent in present electricity bill. Shocking part of the move as it has emerges is that the JMC has managed to change merely 21.66 per cent LED across Jabalpur city speaks itself the serious concerns of municipal administration for eco friendly power saving mode for the city.

About the issue of sheer neglect on the part of JMC on the issue of transposing existing street lights has inadvertently forced the municipal administration to pay high power bill to MPSEB. An attempt was made to ascertain the slow pace of change of street light across the municipal jurisdiction.

Talking exclusively to this newspaper, Naveen Kumar Lonarey Executive Engineer Light Department JMC confessed that, had they been able to transpose all existing street lights by LED would have brought reduction of power bill by at least 50percent of the present power bill being deposited to the MPSEB. He informed that around 30,000 street light are there across the ambit of JMC. The break up of street light comprises mostly of Sodium lamps that are high power consumption lamps along with tube lights being fitted in colonies with less population and mostly in the outskirts of Jabalpur city.

The inception of LED bulb took place around two year ago and the irony of the situation at Jabalpur is that the electricity department of the JMC with its alleged slow pace of work has managed to replace merely 6,500 LED with sodium lamps.

When asked about the slow pace involved to transpose existing sodium lamps that consume high power and is proving costly to municipal administration as far as paying of electricity bill is concern. EE Lonarey said over the months we were faced with technical snag of passing of tender with company supplying LED units to be replaced against existing Sodium lamps and tube-lights. Despite all round efforts being initiated the outcome has been marginal.

He said we are hopeful in view of plan of smart city allocation if things move in the right direction we shall transpose optimal number of street lights with the high power saving eco friendly LED units. Once all street light get replaced with LED units would bring great relief to municipal administration consequently the power consumption bill of MPSEB would get reduced by at least 50 percent what we are paying now. Efforts are being put on to expedite the present pace of work to replace existing street lights with LED units as much remains to be accomplished.
