Focus is on enhancing technical strength, says RPF DG Bhagat

“RAILWAY Protection Force (RPF) is always committed to check illegal activities in trains and believes in adopting advanced technology for security of passengers in trains. Instead of increasing manpower, the department is focusing to improve technical strength of the force and activating intelligence cell to evade untoward incidents.

State police establishments are in regular contact for better law and order arrangements in trains and railway stations and concrete measures are being adopted to curb crime in sensitive areas,” said Director General RPF S K Bhagat, while addressing a press conference on Friday.

RPF DG Bhagat admitted that the manpower is inadequate but efforts are being made for better use of available resources and technical advancements to strengthen security of passengers and assets. He informed that RPF is conducting rigorous campaign to apprehend accused to check increasing crime graph in trains. Database is being prepared to check existence of unwanted elements in trains and implement preventive measures to curb anti-social activities in trains.

The Director General of RPF said that 182 helpline number is evoking tremendous response from passengers against crime incidents and better protection of passengers and their luggage. He informed that Railways remains a soft target for anti-national elements and Naxals but RPF is now geared up to avert such menace by providing adequate training to officers and personnel. Railway Ministry is sensitive towards security of passengers and is regularly conducting meetings with all the organisations to improve facilities and strengthen security arrangements.
