Social auditing of Narmada Seva Yatra begins

Vichar Madhya Pradesh starts social auditing of Narmada Seva Yatra .The right to information activist, environmentalist from the organization and other volunteers have formed a core committee which includes Ex MLA Girija Shankar Sharma , Dr Sanjeev Chandulkar and Narsinghpur Nagar Palika president mahant Peetampur .

This audit is being done with social, political and scientific parameters which can further value the objective of Narmada Seva yatra . As main focus is on conservation of river it is essential to know what strategy has been chalked out and how the campaigns done during Narmada Seva Yatra facilitated in saving the river.This social audit started at Amarkantak on May 19to June 2 and will conclude on June 5.


It has to be noted that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) central zone bench had asked for details of the preparedness made to handle crowd turnout at the culmination ceremony of Narmada Sewa Yatra at Amarkantak.The green panel also sought status report on NGT’s previous orders in which the bench had pursued response on presence coliform bacteria in water and asked Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) officials to explain the cause.

Earlier officials of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board have also been summoned by the panel for presenting their response on infusion of bacteria in the water as well as status report on encroachments.
