14 hostellers rusticated till degree completion along with penalty of Rs 50,000 each
Reacting over the death case of student in institute campus, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) rusticated 14 hostellers till degree completion along with penalty of Rs 50,000 each student.
The institute would also remove student council members from the post as they have proved to be culprit of the incident. Decision has been taken by proctor board keeping view the investigative report. Last month, a civil engineering student died in campus after drowning in pond. Students were partying at the pond under influence of alcoholic beverages. The institute committee recorded statement of 20 students in this matter. Students accepted in written that they were consuming alcohol and partying at the pond.
The institute has decided to suspend them from hostel till degree completion. Their degree and certificates would not be handed over till they submit penalty of Rs 50 thousand. Out of these 14 students, 8 are from B Tech final year and remaining are from third year branches. Proctor committee said members of student council failed to fulfill their responsibilities so they would be removed from the post. Student Council President Bharat Gundala is also involve in the issue.
“We would be giving financial assistance to the deceased family. 14 students have been charged with fine and the amount will be given to the deceased family. Soon discussion will be made to the family of student who died in the incident and if they agree, we would give the amount,” said N Patidar, chief warden MANIT. He further said all these students were called in recent proctor meet and their statement was recorded. Parents of all these 14 students would be informed about the matter and they would be responsible to submit the penalty.
