300 cases of land acquisition redressed; Rs 500 crore
sanctioned to District Collectors for payment in these cases

‘Lakshya Bhagirathi Abhiyan’ launched by state government to complete the long pending irrigation schemes within time-limit for expansion of irrigated area in Chhattisgarh has garnered huge success. This campaign was launched on April 1, 2016 under Water Resource Department and within just one year by March 31, 2017, implementation of this campaign has led to development of irrigation facility on nearly 1,01,795 hectares. Also 300 cases related to land acquisition for expansion of irrigation facilities has been successfully redressed.

An amount of Rs 500 crore have been sanctioned to district collectors for payment of compensation to farmers against the land acquisition. It is noteworthy that Union Water Resource Minister Uma Bharti had considered Lakshya Bhagirathi Abhiyan an exemplary initiative by Chhattisgarh Government. She had also assured of extending full support from Central Government for the campaign.

Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and Water Resource Minister Brijmohan Agrawal have congratulated officials and employees of Water Resource Department and farmers of the state for this important achievement.

Water Resource Department Secretary Ganesh Shankar Mishra informed today that state government had marked 106 projects under Lakshya Bhagirathi Abhiyan, which were lying incomplete since long and decided that progress of these projects will be regularly monitored in every three months.

In the review meeting, Assistant Engineers to Chief Engineers were entrusted with responsibilities to complete the marked schemes within given time-limit. Irrigation facility under this campaign was enhanced in over 1 lakh hectares. He informed that under the scheme, 70 out of 106 marked schemes have been completed in fiscal year 2016-17. Many of these schemes are 30-40 years old.
