Three cities of Chhattisgarh get Swachh Survekshan 2017 award

Three cities of Chhattisgarh - Ambikapur, Bhilai Nagar and Rajnandgaon have been given the award for Swachh Survekshan 2017 for showing a significant transformation in the status of cleanliness.

Mayor of Bhilai Nagar Municipal Corporation Devendra Yadav, Mayor of Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation Madhusudan Yadav, Mayor Ambikapur Dr Ajay Tirki and Urban Administration and Development Department Special Secretary Dr Rohit Yadav received the awards at the hands of Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu at a function in National Media Institute, New Delhi on Thursday.
The union urban development department conducted
cleanliness survey of 434 cities in the country in January-February 2017. In the survey, the cities were given ranking based on various criterion like open defecation free, better management, cleanliness etc.

Ambikapur of Chhattisgarh has registered remarkable transformation in the survey. Its ranking has improved from 464 in 2014 to 15 in 2017. Bhilai Nagar has improved its status to 54 from 379, Rajnandgaon to 164 from 399 and Raipur registered an improvement to 129 from 293 in the previous rating.

In the cleanliness survey 2017, eight cities of Chhattisgarh have substantially improved their ranking. Other cities are Durg, Raigarh, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur.
Meanwhile, Ambikapur has been ranked as the cleanest city in Chhattisgarh in the sanitation rankings of 434 cities of the country released by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India on Thursday. Madhya Pradesh has a lot to be proud about as its two cities, Indore and Bhopal clinched the first and second ranking among the cleanest city of the country. Gonda in Uttar Pradesh has been ranked as the dirtiest city. Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Surat in Gujarat have been ranked as the third and fourth cleanest cities respectively in the country.

Eight cities- Ambikapur, Bhilai, Durg, Korba, Raigarh, Raipur, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur participated in the Swachh Survekshan-2017. Ambikapur secured 15 ranking among 434 cities of the country at national level. Bhilai obtained 54 rank, Korba-77, Durg-85, Raigarh-104, Raipur-129, Rajnandgaon-164, Bilaspur- 179 and Jagdalpur-232. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh’s home district Rajnandgaon secured 164 rank in Swachh Survekshan-2017 while Minister for Urban Administration and Development Amar Agrawal’s home city Bilaspur was ranked 179.

Talking to The Hitavada, Special Secretary of Urban Administration and Development, Government of Chhattisgarh Dr Rohit Yadav said that all cities of the state had improved its ranking in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “Amibakpur model of Swachhata would be adopted in all 165 civic bodies of the state to make Chhattisgarh clean. In this regard, the State has already started the initiative. Now, more remains to be done for bettering the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in State,” Special Secretary added.
