‘Mantostaan’, based on Saadat HasanManto’s stories, premiered in Raipur

YOUNG Director, Rahat Kazmi’s movie ‘Mantostaan’, based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s four stories on the backdrop of the Indian Partition, was screened at PVR, Magneto Mall in Raipur on Saturday. Religious intolerance and violence were highlighted in the movie. Viewers appreciated the works of artists in the movie. The movie is a dark satire based on four Saadat Hasan Manto’s four short stories- ‘Thanda Gosht’, ‘Khol Do’, ‘Akhri Salute’ and ‘The Assignment’. ‘Mantostaan’ has won several international and national awards.

The movie was also screened in the Cannes International Film Festival. Talking to reporters in Raipur on Saturday, director Rahat Kazmi, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, said, “In the movie, Manto’s four different stories were woven together with the Partition as backdrop.

Once I read Manto’s stories, I decided to make film on his stories,” he stated. Film making is an organic process. A film-maker does his work and its result depends on viewers, the director said. Rahat said that he had met Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh during a programme in Raipur that helped him to understand the right approach to the film. Actress Raina Bassnet said that she got all support from the entire team. Raghubir Yadav and Sonal Sehgal also play key roles in the film.Main star casts in the movie include Virendra Saxena, Rahat Kazmi, Raina Bassnet, Shoib Shah and other artists. ‘Mantostaan’ has been shot in Punjab and Jammu. Earlier, Rahat Kazmi made ‘Identity Card’. Co-producer Aaditya Singh and others were present during the premier.
