Submit interim report on Urban Nexus project by June-end’

ICLEI South Asia ,on Friday,made a presentation on ‘Urban Nexus’ project under which maximum yield of compost would bederived from organic waste generated in the city.
The project is being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and financed by German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). ICLEI South Asia and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) both had conducted a study in this regard and submitted a report to Nanda Jichkar,Mayor,last month.
On Friday, GIZ team comprising Ruth Erlbeck and Ralph Trosse made a presentation regarding the project at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) office here. Nanda Jichkar, Mayor; Ashwin Mudgal, Municipal Commissioner; Dr Ramnath Sonwane, Additional Commissioner;Ravindra Deotale, Deputy Commissioner; Jayant Dandegaonkar, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Harish Dubey,NMC Secretary were present on the occasion. The GIZ team made presentation on collection of waste, areawise
collection,processing methods, production of biogas etc. Mudgal asked the team to submit an interim report regarding the project details by the end of June. Last month, an ICLEI South Asia delegation comprising six officials from National Government of Mongolia as well as the city government of Ulaanbataar. It was led by T Gantumur,General Managerand Head of Mayor’s Office, Ulaanbataar, and GIZ representatives. As part of the project to promote regional exchange and dissemination of successful practical approaches to integrated resource management through networkingamong‘UrbanNexus’ cities,the city of Ulaan bataar had expressed its inclination to visit Nagpur and learn from its various initiatives.
