24-year-old youth drowns in swimming pool

A youth Prakash Gupta (24), resident of Maharani Ward of the city drowned in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Swimming pool in an inebriated condition here on Saturday evening.


Along with him Abhinav Singh (25) and Lokesh Yadav (23) were also swimming in the pool. Police have registered the case and investigating. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the relatives. According to the information received from police, on Saturday evening at around 4.30pm, Prakash Gupta, Abhinav Singh and Lokesh Yadav had gone to Subhash Chandra Bose swimming pool for swimming. The trio got down in the pool after taking the payment receipt. Around 20 other children were also swimming along with them.

At around 5pm when high velocity wind started blowing, the lifeguards asked the children to come out. During that time Prakash, Abhinav and Lokesh were present in less deep water. Prakash was standing at the bank of the pool taking its help. All of a sudden he disappeared. Thereafter, lifeguards were informed and search for Prakash started.


At around 8.15 in the night, lifeguards could extricate his body from the pool. The body was shifted to Maharani Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
After receiving information, CSP Monika Thakur reached the incident spot and directed Sub-Inspector (SI) Archana Dhurandhar for investigation.


Abhinav informed that the trio had gone to celebrate the birthday party of a friend at a dhaba. There they drank liquor. Prakash was heavily drunk. After the party was over, the trio directly reached the swimming pool. Abhinav, resident of Pratapdeo Ward and Lokesh from Bhairavdeo Ward went swimming pool regularly. Prakash did not know swimming. This was the reason stated to be behind his drowning.
