Cops arrest woman for abetting suicide

INVESTIGATING a case of women’s death, Kundam police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against a woman.
The accused has been identified as Sarla Bai Barman (38), wife of Pancham Barman, a resident of Ranipur village in Kundam.
According to Kundam police, on April 18, Pancham Barman (40) informed that he was married to Sarla Bai 20 years back, but could not give a child. With the consent of his wife, he developed lived in relations with a woman, Durga Bai Barman (21) who took divorce from her husband and was living with her parents. He also took permission from her parents for taking caring her of like his wife.

Thereafter, his wife Sarla started was annoyed for living with another woman and regularly torturing Durga Bai for living with him. On April 17, he was sleeping in his room when he heard noise of Durga Bai and he came out from house witnessing that Durga Bai had set herself ablaze. He managed to douse the fire but she succumbed to her critical burn injuries. He charged that Durga Bai Barman committed suicide following her exploitation by Sarla Bai.

Receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem after conducting Panchnama and started investigation into the case.

Police took statements of family members and relatives and registered a case of abetment of suicide against Sarla Bai Barman under Section 306 of the IPC while further investigations are underway.
