Driver killed as ambulance turns turtle near Umaria

A Tavera ambulance van carrying body from Jabalpur to Singrauli rammed into a one tree and turned turtle killing the driver on the spot. Family members accompanying the corpse also sustained serious injuries. The mishap took place near village Govardey around five kilometres from Manpur.


The ambulance driver lost control on the vehicle in his attempt to save stray animals. After the ambulance turned turtle, it caught fire as villagers residing near the spot rushed to the spot and doused the fire by pouring water.


According to information, the ambulance van (MP 20 DA 1670) carrying corpse turned turtle and the driver sustained fatal chest and head injury and died on-the-spot. People accompanying the ambulance sustained serious injuries. Soon after the mishap, people from the village rushed to the spot and started rescue work and also informed police and ambulance. The rescue team, along with police, managed to bring out people from the ambulance and found the driver stuck against the steering wheel against the chest.


The family members of the deceased having sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Government Hospital Manpur. Police made panchnama and referred the body for autopsy. A case under relevant section of IPC has been registered by the police as further investigations underway. Another vehicle was hired to take the corpse to Singrauli the family members of who sustained serious injuries undergoing treatment left Manpur hospital to further accompany the corpse.
