Divya clinches gold inCommonwealth Chess

WFM Divya Deshmukh secured gold medal in Under-12 caterogy in Commonwelth Chess Tournament that concluded in New Delhi on Monday.
Top seed Divya scored 6.5 points out of possible seven to win the gold. In all 24 girls participated in Under-12 category.
In first round she defeated Sri Lankan Mapa MM and then in second round Divya got the better of another Sri Lankan player Pavalachandran Ashvini.
However in third round, WCM Dhyana Patel held her to a draw.
But after that Divya never looked back and recorded wins over Bhagyashree Patil, Meenatchi Rajam, Sathwika N and Choudki Khushi.
Divya is the student of BVM, Civil Lines and gets training from RB Ramesh.
Earlier this year in April, She won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal each in the three events at the Asian Youth Chess Championship at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Few days back, she won silver medal in Under-13 nationals held at Jalandhar. Divya gives the credit of her success to coach, Grandmaster RB Ramesh, school principal Anju Bhutani and parents Dr Namrata and Dr Jitendra Deshmukh.
