MP sailors selected for World C’ship

Madhya Pradesh players will represent Team India at Optimist World Sailing Championship 2017. Thailand will host the championship and the event has confirmed the participation of a total of 62 sailing nations with 280 sailors, a record-breaking landmark for world stage event. Each country will send their most skilled optimist sailors to race as national representatives to compete in the waters off Pattaya Beach.
The event which was officially started on Tuesday at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) in Pattaya and will conclude on July 21.


Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy’s sailors Harshita Tomar and Uma Chouhan have been selected to represent India. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia congratulated them and also expressed deep contentment over the performance of girls of water sports academy.


Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Upendra Jain also expressed his happiness over the selection of sailors from MP State Water Sports Academy to represent team India. Earlier this year, Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy’s sailors clinched a gold medal and two bronze medals in Asian Sailing Federation Youth Sailing Cup Finals-2017 at Ras-al-Khaimah, Dubai, and brought laurels for the State as well as for the country.


Uma Chouhan clinched bronze medal participating in optimist event of girls’ category. Academy player Harshita Tomar stood category first in girls’ excelling in laser 4.7 event clinched gold medal.


Its Academy players participated in international competition under the guidance of Indian team Chief National Coach Ian Stuart Warren.
