DEATH of Islamic State (IS) chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, which has been confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, is a deadly blow to the most brutal terror outfit that has butchered thousands of innocent people mostly in Syria and Iraq. Though the IS has not officially announced Baghdadi’s death, there are reasons to believe that the terror outfit head is no more as there were no fresh video messages released by him even after Iraqi forces have driven the IS militants out of Mosul, its stronghold and from where Baghdadi had declared the Islamic caliphate. His rein of terror can be dubbed as another black chapter in the history of the world after Hitler’s during the World War II. The world had to pay a heavy price for Baghdadi’s madness. Entire Syria and many parts of Iraq have been totally devastated in the war between the IS and the security forces. The devastation is so severe that it won’t be possible for Syria to rebuild itself at least for the next 25 years by a conservative estimate. The world therefore, must extend a helping hand to the devastated Syria urgently.

UNTENABLE

INVESTIGATING agencies are tightening the noose around Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav and several of his close family members in matters of mindboggling level of corruption. That his daughter Misa Bharati is facing the charge of money laundering to the tune of Rs. 8000 crore, is astounding and outrageous. This indicates the amount of black money they have accumulated by misusing their positions of power. Likewise, the State’s Deputy Chief Minister and Mr. Lalu Prasad’s son Tejashwi Yadav has been raided by central investigating agencies on corruption charges. With such serious charges of corruption against the Yadav family members it is untenable for them to remain in public office. In fact it is within Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar’s right to sack Tejashwi Yadav forthwith if he really has zero tolerance for corruption. He has only asked Tejashwi Yadav to come clean. So long as the investigation is going on Tejashwi must stay away from power to facilitate transparent and uninfluenced investigations in the charges that he and his family members are facing.
