Assistant Engineer caught taking bribe

A team of Lokayukta Police special establishment, Jabalpur caught an Assistant Engineer of MNREGA while taking bribe of Rs 15,000 for clearing payment bills of a contractor at Panagar Janpad Panchayat, on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Brijendra Sahu, posted as Assistant Engineer, MNREGA at Panagar Janpad Panchayat.
The officers of Lokayukta police nabbed the accused Brijendra Sahu, when he was taking bribe of Rs 15,000 from complainant named Raman Patel, Upsarpanch of Panagar Janpad Panchayat.

According to Lokayukta police, Superintendent of Police, Anil Vishwakarma he received a complaint from a resident of Panagar named Raman Patel that construction of a cement concrete road was carried out under the head of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Assistant Engineer of MNREGA, Brijendra Sahu demanded bribe of Rs 15,000 for clearing the bills for payment of project.

Acting on the complaint, a team of Lokayukta police fielded the appellant for collecting evidences. Once the information was confirmed, Lokayukta police team reached at office of Assistant Engineer and trapped the officer of Government department red-handed when he was taking the cash of Rs 15,000 from the appellant. Lokayukta police have registered a case against the accused under Section 13(1)D of Prevention of Corruption Act while further investigations are underway. During the trap, Lokayukta police team was comprised of DSP, Dilip Dharwade, Inspector, Swapnil Das, Inspector Ajay Tiwari, Inspector Ajay Sankar and Inspector Prabhat Shukla.
Lokayukta SP, Anil Vishwakarma informed that Lokayukta police are continuing investigation to disclose disproportionate properties with the corrupt Government officers.
