Radio City 91.1 FM holds cooking show

Dental technicians from the city Pankaj Gupta and his wife, Swati made a mark by showcasing their culinary skills and emerging out winners for Radio City 91.1FM’s cooking reality show, “Mr and Mrs Fasterchef”, which was first of its kind in the history of Indian radio. More than 500 cooking enthusiast couples have registered themselves for the event held at Hotel Heritage on Sunday morning.


The contest witnessed elements of fun, sportsmanship, high spirits and involved major twists painting the air with suspense and excitement. Radiocity 91.1FM’s agenda behind the event was to encourage women empowerment by giving men a chance to share the burden of their wives. “Simple assistance in kitchen may strengthen their bond and help them fight all challenges in life with ease,” said members of the radio station.


The hundred shortlisted couples were asked to prepare a dish at home and bring it to the venue for the elimination round. Following which, ten best ones were filtered out for the semi-final segment. The semis involved a time limit of thirty minutes and the management skills of couples were tested as they were expected to bring out innovations in their cooking and come up with recipes using only the limited ingredients provided. Paneer, tomatoes, onions and garlic were among the basic contents which paved a way for some lip-smacking cuisines.


Chief chef at Breakfast Story Smita Kalkar and Executive Chef at Hotel Heritage, Prashant Wandey indeed had a tough time adjudging the top three for finals. The fourth finalist couple and later winners, Pankaj and Swati were actually the wildcard entrants selected through a lucky draw. In the fifteen minute final round they cooked with all their passion and focus as they believed, “When life gives you a second chance, better make the most of it.”


Couples prepared mouth-watering desserts. There were the traditional Sheerkhorma’s and Sewai Halwas which summed up as a perfect treat for people with sweet tooth. The show was organsied in assocaition with The Hitavada.
