3 arrested for stealing copper wires

THREE persons have been arrested in connection with theft of copper wires and bushing rods from transformers at different locations across the district. The accused have been identified as Rambabu Devar (35), Bhanu Devar (55) and Budharu Devar (28)., Police charged them under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code.


The accused, according to police, had stolen wires and bushing rods from transformers during January to July. Rambabu was arrested during patrolling and when interrogated, he confessed to the theft and named his accomplice also. During interrogation, the three disclosed of selling stolen materials to scrap dealers Abdul Jabbar, Roopnarain Nishad, Rustom Khan, Ahmad Raza, Mustaq Khan and Samaru Sinha. Abdul, Roopnarain, Samaru and Mustaq have been charged under Sections 411 of Indian Penal Code apart from Sections 136 and 137 of Electricity Regulatory Act. Police is searching absconding Rustom and Raza. The accused have been sent on judicial remand. The accused, police said, were involved in numerous thefts in Dhamtari and nearby areas. According to police, the accused used to do recce of the place before committing theft. They use screwdrivers, spanners and other instruments for theft. Police have appealed people to immediately intimate control room if they see any suspicious person.
