Chhattisgarh is all set for the contest between Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar. All preparations for polling for the contest of Presidential Elections are complete in Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, on the of polling hectic political activities have begun in the Capital. While Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to ensure more votes for the NDA Presidential Nominee than its actual numbers, the Congress is keeping its finger crossed as there is chance of cross-voting.

All eyes are on Marwahi Legislator Amit Jogi, Gunderdehi Legislator Rajendra Kumar Rai and Bilha Legislator Siyaram Kaushik, who had been elected in Congress tickets, but under current political scenario are supporters of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi), a political outfit floated by former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, who is its Founder President. Meanwhile, Marwahi MLA Amit Jogi in a statement issued on the eve of polling for Presidential elections, clarified that he will cast his exercise his franchise in favour of ‘Woman candidate’ contesting for the post of President of India. Giving reasons, Jogi said 50 percent population in the country is that of women, hence he will give equal chance to the woman candidate. According to him, alternatively, a woman candidate should be elected as President of India.

With Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) opening its cards, it has now become aptly clear both Gunderdehi Legislator Rajendra Kumar Rai and Bilha Legislator Siyaram Kaushik will be tow the line of Amit Jogi and are likely to caste their franchise in favour of UPA Presidential Nominee. On the other hand suspense is still prevailing as during UPA Presidential candidate’s visit to Raipur, of the total 39 Congress Legislators, only 29 MLAs had attended. Keeping aside Jogi, Rai and Kaushik, another seven Legislators didn’t attend the meeting, raising hopes of cross voting. However, the Congress state leadership has maintained that these seven Legislators were out of Raipur, hence couldn’t attend the meeting.

In the 90 Member Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, BJP has 49 Members, while the Congress has 39 Legislators. One Legislator is from Bahujan Samaj Party while another is Independent. On the other hand in Lok Sabha, Chhattisgarh has 10 BJP and one Congress Member while in Rajya Sabha the state has three BJP and two Congress Members.

Independent Legislator Dr Vimal Chopda, who was earlier a Bharatiya Janata Party office-bearer, has already announced that he will exercise his franchisein favour of the NDA Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind. On the other hand the lone Bahujan Samaj Party Legislator in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Keshav Chandra will be towing the party-line and vote in favour of UPA
