Cantt Board removes 65 pc names from voters’ list

IN A major jolt to public representatives of Jabalpur Cantonment Board, names of around 65 per cent residents were removed from voters’ list. Cantonment Board has revised voters list as per order of Apex Court. Cantonment Board has removed names of 19,068 voters from a total number of 34,911 names in the voters’ list and only 15,843 voters are remaining in the civilian area of Cantonment Board. The Supreme Court, while hearing the case of Pachmarhi Cantonment Board, had ordered to remove names of encroachers who were removed from Cantonment area. The order was implemented on all Cantonment boards to remove names of encroachers from voters’ list.

Complying with the directives of higher authorities to follow apex court’s order, Cantonment Board Jabalpur tabled revised voters’ list before senior officers and public representatives during Board meeting on Saturday.

Revised voters’ list surprised corporators as names of more than 65 per cent voters were removed. Corporations objected removal of names of voters and declared to protest against higher authorities. Cantonment Board Vice-President Abhishek Chouksey informed that the Supreme Court had ordered the same for Pachmarhi Cantonment Board as tourist destination but implementation of the same is not practical for Jabalpur Cantonment Board.

He said to appeal to the Apex Court and also register their protest against Cantonment authority. The Board members objected proposed suspension of Corporator Rajit Yadav who attempted to set himself ablaze in previous board meeting and proposed to file a FIR against him. PCB, Brigadier, Arun Sabharwal chaired the meeting, while Chief Executive Officer Rahul Anand Sharma, corporators, Rajendra Ajay Padam, Bina Agrawal, Sunder Agrawal, Kavita Bawaria, Amit Agrawal attended the meeting.
