Narmada Bacaho Andolan activist Medha Patkar is all set to sit on fast from July 27 over Sardar Sarovar Dam oustees rehabilitation issue .At a press conference she said that State Government is using force on villagers and without any proper rehabilitation scheme the ousteees are forced to vacate their villages. The state government has asked these oustees to vacate the submergence area of the dam by July 31.She alleged that hundreds of police forces have already been deployed in the area .The police force also conducted mock drill at Barwani district on Monday and are issuing warning to villagers to vacate their houses within stipulated time frame . Amidst monsoon season villagers with their families and cattles are coupled up less than 180 square feet tin shed which is making their lives more miserable.

She alleged that in last seventeen days in around 21 places villagers are sitting in fast but government is not even ready to talk to them. Besides all other political parties like Congress , Communist party AAP came in support of the oustees demand but government is thinking of using force to rehabilitate the villages which is unfortunate .Further she said that NBA will vouch for non violent method and is now geared up to sit on indefinite fast for their demands.

From 141 villages around 18386 families list is being incorporated under the affected families but this list does not include people who have stay in villages permanently. It has to be noted that earlier also thousands of Sardar Sarovar dam oustees gathered for ‘Aam Sabha’ (general assembly) in the submergence zone village of Nisarpur as part of the 3-day Rally for the Valley in their struggle against forceful displacement without proper rehabilitation. NBA leaders alleged that the affected people are on tenterhooks given that the water level in the dam was swelling due to the rains. The state government should take immediate steps to save precious lives

.The government has been pressing for completion for the dam and closing its gates just to reap political benefits. NBA alleged that the State government has turned a blind eye to the oustees’ rehabilitation and was not even talking to Narmada Bachao Andolan leaders over issues.
