Staff Reporter,

“Nationwide public campaign against child sexual abuse and child trafficking is going to be launched soon.” This information was shared by Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Laureate, at a press conference in city. The press conference was organised by Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation at a city hotel in New Market. He said that rise in number of child rape cases in State is alarming and it’s high time that stringent measures needed to be taken at national level to curb the crime rate. Not only in Madhya Pradesh but also in entire country there is need to raise awareness about this issue so that more and more community group can vouch for it.

He said that he already had a talk with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the issue and dates of the campaign will be decided shortly.
The Kailash Satyarathi Children’s Foundation is also in talk with Chief Minister of other states and a nationwide strategy will be set to bring in the difference in the scenario. He said that there is immense need also to make police aware about the legal laws especially of POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act) Act.

Ironically, the State which comes in the top list for crimes against children in the entire country has very less number of cases registered under POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act).

This is not showing healthy trend. He also said that when it comes to crime against children, Madhya Pradesh stands among top but there are many incidences of child sexual abuse which are going unreported because of less awareness about the act. Now the strategy is being chalked out so as to incorporate police authorities also to make this public campaign effective. He also said that in many child rape cases influence and interference of family members also harms child right especially when the accused is family member.
