AS WAS expected, India easily trounced Fiji 93-51 to enter semi-finals of the B Division of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Basketball Championship in progress at Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, on Thursday.

Then captain Anitha scored 7 points in a row to make it 15-8. Under pressure Fiji were trailing 11-19 at the end of the first quarter. India increased the speed of the game in the second quarter and their opponents could not match them.

Anitha continued her shooting form and was helped by Shireen and Jeena Scaria who scored from the restricted area to keep the hosts on top at the half time 42-23.
After the change of ends, India coach introduced tall Poonam Chaturvedi and she used her height under the board to score three baskets. As the match was getting one-sided, the winners used their bench and all of them responded chipping valuable baskets.

India will meet Lebanon in Friday’s semis while Kazhakstan will take on Uzbekistan in other semis. Uzbekistan beat Singapore 84-79 and Lebanon defeated Sri Lanka 86-37 in other B Division quarter-finals.

Captain Cocks Micaela and Harmon Jilian did succeed in reducing the margin in the third quarter but the attacking trio of Park, Lim and Kang took Korea home.
