BJP’s RS candidate Uike files nomination

BJP’s candidate for by-election to vacant Rajya Sabha seat Sampatiya Uike filed her nomination papers on Friday. She filed her nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP State President Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, revenue minister Umashankar Gupta and other BJP leaders.

Sampatiya Uike first went to BJP headquarters and sought blessings of senior party leaders and garlanded the statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhayay. On this occasion, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP State President Nandkumar Singh Chouhan and other BJP leaders were present. Later, she accompanied by Chouhan went to Vidhan Sabha to file her nomination papers. Returning officer and Assembly’s Principal Secretary A P Singh received her nomination papers.

Former CM Babulal Gaur and Ministers Jayant Mallaiya, Gaurishankar Bisen, Rustam Singh, Omprakash Dhurve, Umashankar Gupta, Maya Singh, Archana Chitnis, Rampal Singh, Lal Singh Arya, Sharad Jain, Sanjay Pathak, Vishwas Sarang have proposed name of Sampatiya Uike.

Later, talking to mediapersons at assembly premises, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the decision of BJP National President Amit Shah to send Sampatiya Uike is symbol of respect to women, tribal and party workers. Party has strengthened the tribals by nominating Sampatiya Uike was Rajya Sabha candidate. Praising showers on Sampatiya Uike, he said Uike had worked vigorously for party by touring villages. The selection of Uike as Rajya Sabha candidate symbolises that even a small worker is respected in BJP. 

It was two days back that BJP made the decision to field tribal leader Sampatiya Uike as its candidate for election of vacant Rajya Sabha seat. This seat had fallen following the sudden demise of Union Minister Anil Dave on May 18. July 28 was the last date to file nominations. Election for vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh will be held on August 8. When the name of Sampatiya Uike was announced as Rajya Sabha candidate then it was a matter of surprise to many BJP workers.

As in race to get ticket for Rajya Sabha were some heavy weight BJP leaders including Makhan Singh, BJP General Secretary Ajay Pratap Singh, former minister Vikram Verma, former minister Dr Ramkrishna Kusmaria and Vinod Gotia. Name of Sampatiya Uike was little known but her luck shined owing to being a tribal. The election of Sampatiya Uike for upper house is only a matter of time as BJP enjoys majority in Madhya Pradesh assembly. Everyone has started to wish her in advance as they knew that she is going to get elected easily to upper house.
