Principal Correspondent,

Dr Dani’s appointment came under cloud owing to his American citizenship

The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State Ch Vidyasagar Rao, on Saturday, terminated the services of Dr Raviprakash G Dani as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapith (PDKV), Akola ‘with immediate effect’ on the grounds of his not being a citizen of India. Whether he had submitted the documents of his citizenship during the interview for the post of V-C or not is now a million dollar question.

The decision to remove Dr Dani from the post of Vice-Chancellor was taken after obtaining opinion of the Law and Judiciary Department of Government of Maharashtra, the Advocate General of Maharashtra and the Ministry of External Affairs.

If he had submitted the documents why an enquiry was not conducted during his appointment is the unanswered question. The Hitavada tried to contact Dr Raviprakash Dani but he did not respond to the calls.

Dr Dani is currently working as extension biologist at the Texas Tech University. The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities K Sankaranarayanan had appointed Dr Dani as the Vice-Chancellor of PDKV. He had succeeded Dr V M Mayande as the V-C of the university.

Dr Dani holds PhD in Genetics from the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. He has also served as Principal Scientist at the Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR) in Nagpur.
