Mayor Nandatai Jichkar recently assured traders based in Anaj Bazar in the city to take concrete steps to maintain cleanliness in the markets.

Speaking at a special function organised to celebrate ‘Nag Panchami’ at Shree Nag Nageshwar Mandir in the locality, Jichkar said she would soon direct the municipal authorities to remove heaps of garbage accumulated in the market.

“I will also asked the concerned officers in the solid waste managment department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to prevent dumping of left over vegetables in the market,” she said.

Expressing concerns over encroachment of road side space and public utility land by the vegetable seller, Jichkar said would put efforts to make the area free from the clutches of encroachers.

In addition to this, Jichkar spoke about significance of snakes in the ecological cycle and said the reptile controls growth of rats thereby saving food grains. Jichkar took part in rituals held to observe Nag Panchami and also performed ‘pooja’. Corporator Abhatai Pande, Ramchandra Bawankar, Santoshkumar Agrwal, Pratap Motwani andf other were among the prominent persons present on the occasion.
