Staff Reporter,

The students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur exhibited their proficiency by marking themselves as one of the winners of Texas Instruments and DST India Innovation Challenge 2017.

In this innovation challenge the students of NIT Raipur
developed an automated irrigation system to resolve the problems related to irrigation.

This is because the water table is constantly shooting down at
an alarming rate; statistics revealing over 62% decline in the water table.

Lack in electricity supply is posing yet another challenge. The idea of the students is to develop an automated irrigation system which uses modern day sensors to detect the weather and other factors and all running on solar power. The students are looking forward to shape this project into a startup named as “SOIL” which will be incubated in IIM Bengaluru and receive seed funding from Texas instruments and DST. The team was headed by Aditya Chaudhary, Jaydeep Rusia, Ashutosh Balakrishnan, Nishtha Bhimte, and Himanshu Verma. The team was mentored by Dr Shubhankar Majumdar. The team of five was amongst 1100 students participating from over 625 colleges.
