CHINA is just refusing to accept what is a well established historical fact on the status of Sikkim and Bhutan because of its newfound ambitions of a superpower, spreading its hegemonist fangs all across regions. All neighbours of China are suffering because of this overbearing attitude of the Dragon, mostly related to territorial sovereignty, claiming large portions of land belonging to other nations.

How the Chinese are indulging in blatant lies can be established by the well-documented, elaborate communication that Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had with the then Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai way back in 1959. The Chinese Government lately has been asserting, of course falsely, that Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had accepted the 1890 Sino-British Treaty to proffer its claim on the Doka La area.

On the contrary Pt. Nehru had pointed out that the Chinese were illegally claiming large areas of Bhutan and that the 1890 Sino-British Treaty had established India’s sovereignty over Sikkim. Pt. Nehru had also reminded Zhou Enlai that India, under treaty relationship, was the competent authority to take up with other Governments issues concerning the Bhutan Government. Hence the present Indian Government’s intervention on China’s border dispute with Bhutan was a well-established arrangement between India and Bhutan.

The present Chinese regime has conveniently forgotten that the Chinese Government had accepted India’s sovereignty on Sikkim as far back as 1890. However, in its expansionist greed over the land of neighbours, the present Chinese regime has chosen to discard and dishonour treaties and agreements which were arrived at after long deliberations and negotiations between the two sides.

What the Chinese are doing now is to unleash a propaganda blitzkrieg and deliberate provocative intrusions in the border areas. The present tension over Sikkim and parts of Bhutan is a deliberate, provocative action on the part of the Chinese, accusing India of telling lies and going back on past agreements. Pt. Nehru’s letter to Zhou Enlai nails these Chinese lies.

The Chinese have become so emboldened by their economic and military superiority that they have begun to issue direct threats.
