Home Guards crying out ordeals on deaf ears

Pressing for their 20 demands including the regularisation, members of Chhattisgarh Home Guard Parivar Sahyog Sangh have submitted a memorandum to Governor, Chief Minister, and Home Minister. The Organisation’s State President Hanumant Baag raised the ordeals being faced by the Home Guards in Chhattisgarh.

Around 9,000 Home Guards are serving all across the State from Chief Minister’s residence to the bungalows of Cabinet Ministers, IAS, IPS and SPS officers as well as in Naxal-affected regions with honesty. But, they are earning lesser than a Coolie.

Baag read out the major demands as Regularisation to Government service, pension facility or Rs 5 lakh retirement benefits to retired Home Guards, promotion on work basis, revision of wage/allowances and ensure payment on 1st day of every month, permanent allotment of kit so as they don’t need to deposit them while going on leave, ending the rotation process, remuneration to green card holders, equal pay for equal work, reconsideration on CP& Barar Home Guard Act 1947 and formulation of new Home Guard Act, facility of TA/DA on transferring out of Head Quarter, Compensation of Rs 10 lakh on death while in duty, nutritious meal allowance, Insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh and GPF facility, immediate stopping the new recruitment in Home Guard & cancellation of security guard contracts in government & semi-government offices rather appoint the Home Guards, who are on rotation, deploy them in railway protection like they do in Punjab, proper increment to Home Guards with technical knowledge, Class-3 status, Bank loan on government’s guarantee, ending of renomination process every 3 years and continue the service until retirement after first registration, reimbursement of expenses such as medical , marriage, education, maternity, accidental, disability and a monthly visit to Home Guard lines by Collector so as they can put their issues in front of him.
