Inter-State chain snatcher involved in three dozen cases nabbed

The sleuths of Central Crime Branch (CCB) from Raipur arrested an inter-state chain snatcher involved in nearly three-dozen cases, from Nagpur on Monday. According to police, 34 chain snatching cases were pending against the accused, Abdul Rizwan alias Bunty, with various police stations in Nagpur. Addressing media persons, Ajatshatru Bahadur Singh, Superintendent of Police (Crime), said that the accused was involved in the chain snatching incident that took place in Raipur on July 29 at about 5 pm.

The accused snatched gold chain of Mukta Chobey, a resident of Pension Bada while she was driving a scooty. She reported the case to Civil Lines police station. A similar incident took place in the month of June in Shastri Bazaar area when the accused snatched a gold chain worth about RS 90,000 from Basanta Krishnamurthy, wife of V Krishnamurthy.

Police investigated the cases on the basis of video footage and identified the accused Abdul Rizwan (26), a resident of Chhota Loharpara, Nagpur. Police recovered the stolen gold chains with locket snatched from Raipur and a Pulsar motorbike (CG04/DR/6537) used by the accused. The recovered booty was estimated at about Rs 1.5 lakh.

Police informed that Rizwan arrived at Raipur by Shivnath Express on July 28 and next morning he reached Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital by an auto-rickshaw. He stolen pulsar motorbike from Laxmi Medical store and after snatching he reached railway station to depart for Nagpur, leaving the vehicle motorcycle at the station. He departed for Nagpur by Intercity express. Police booked him under relevant Section.
