Rs 1 cr aid for ventilators from District Devpt Fund

“Organ donation can give a new lease of life to an individual. Organisations like Indian Medical Association and others should take lead in creating awareness about organ donation in the society. As a step towards in this direction, an aid of Rs 1 crore will be made available from District Development Fund for procurement of five ventilators,” said Sachin Kurve, District Collector.

Kurve was addressing the officials during a meeting of District Organ Donation Co-ordination Committee held at Collectorate Hall here on Wednesday. Dr Kadambari Balkawde, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad (ZP); Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Deputy Director Health Services; Dr Vaishali Khandait, President of Indian Medical Association (IMA); Dr Prashant Rathi, Honorary Secretary; Dr Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation; Dr Abhimanyu Niswade, Dean of Government Medical College and Hospital; Dr Sachin Hiwase, Dr Sameer Jahagirdar, Dr Hemant Nimbalkar, Civil Surgeon; Dr Rajendra Sawai, District Health Officer; Dr Suresh Mohta of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital; Dr Savita Mokadam, Rajendra Nikaju attended the meeting.

Addressing the officials and representatives of various organisations, Kurve said that facility of organ donation in case of brain-dead patients is mandatory to be made available at seven centres in the district. As part of drive to create awareness about organ donation, sensitisation of relatives of a brain-dead persons is necessary. In this regard, Nodal Officers have been appointed. IMA also should make available information about such patients and organ donation to retrieval centres concerned.

Every hospital should inform about brain-dead patients, to Government Medical College and Hospital, Wockhardt Hospital, Orange City Hospital, Care Hospital, Suretech Hospital, Meditrina Hospital (all at Nagpur), and Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital at Sawangi Meghe in Wardha district. District Collector urged the members of the district-level committee to make efforts and ensure that at least five organ donations were done every month in Nagpur district.

Various programmes are being organised on August 13 to mark Organ Donation Day. An awareness rally will be taken out from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hall in Deekshabhoomi, at 7 am on August 13. Nanda Jichkar, Mayor, will flag-off the rally. Rotary Clubs, Jaycees, Janaakrosh, MOHAN Foundation, Traffic Control Branch of city Police, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, senior officials of district administration, will participate in the rally.
