Paddy growers irked as MP Govt stops releasing water from Chourai Dam

Paddy growers in Ramtek tehsil are getting restless and the tapping into fears politicians are now wading into waters of Pench river by calling for agitation if water is not released from Chourai Dam by Madhya Pradesh Government. The water level in Pench Dam is very less and scanty rainfall has further aggravated the situation.


The Madhya Pradesh Government has now ordered closure of all the gates of Chourai Dam and its capacity stands at 40 per cent but inter-state Totladoh Dam is filled just 11.04 per cent. The water from Totladoh Dam is crucial for further development of paddy crop which is taken in large area of Ramtek tehsil.


With passion rising high, D Mallikarjun Reddy, MLA, detailed steps taken by him for ensuring that right of farmers in the region is protected. He pointed out that a eight-member expert committee was formed after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis went through the letter written by him. Reddy said there is need to review providing drinking water supply to Nagpur city from Totladoh Dam while at the same time Rahari, Jamghat and Kochi Barrages should be completed speedily.
