‘IUIH Medicity project will boost medical tourism’

THE Indo UK Institute of Health (IUIH) Medicity, Nagpur will be spread over an area of 152 acres in MIHAN-SEZ will give a big boost to medical tourism and put Nagpur on the world map in healthcare. This was revealed by Dr Ajay Rajan Gupta, Group MD and CEO of Indo UK Institute of Health (IUIH) Medicity while talking at a press conference on Sunday.


He said that the ultra modern IUIH campus will be set up with an investment of Rs 1,600 crore and will include a 1,000 bedded hospital, medical college, nursing college, research and development centre (clinical, genetic and stencil research), diagnostic equipment manufacturing centre, hostel, housing for staff, recreational areas, water bodies, five star hotel, retail and commercial area.


In the first phase a 250-bed hospital will be completed by 2019. The second and third phase is expected to be completed within 7 years.
Out of 11 medicities the second will be launched at Amravati, Andhra Pradesh on August 16 and third one at Hyderabad on August 18.


We will be able to provide affordable healthcare services due to the large volume generated at the hospital.
Vinay Singhal of Indo UK Institute of Health said that the IUIH Medicity at Nagpur will start construction by December. “We are hopeful that the construction plan will get sanctioned within a span of 15 days”, he said. The construction contract of the hospital has been awarded to L&T. After getting all the sanctions and NOCs the construction will commence, he added.


Jane Grady, Deputy Director, Trade, Economics and Prosperity, British High Commission, said that the project was totally commercial in nature. “We are talking up with the most reputed companies in healthcare from around and bring their expertise for the benefit of patients.” The equipment manufacturing centre is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, she added.


The project is supported by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Invest India which is the national investment promotion and facilitation agency for India promoted by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
