Business Bureau,

It was a memorable weekend for the members of The Hitavada’s Twinkle Club as they paid a visit to the city-based dairy plant of Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Private Limited - a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on Sunday. Over 100 club members who had registered their name well in advance got the rare opportunity to see various stages of milk processing and packaging.

The kids’ excitement was palpable as it was first of its kind experience for most of the visiting members. While watching the milk processing, filling and packaging system, most of the girls and boys were amazed as they had never believed that milk packets arriving at their doorsteps every morning pass through such a long and complex process.
“I have never imagined that milk packaging involved such a long procedure. Moreover, for the first time in my life, I have seen such a huge quantity of milk. Today’s visit has changed my concepts about the milk processing,” said one of the visitors.

Adding spice to the event, the official of the Mother Dairy offered flavoured milk to all the visitors.
The dairy plant located in the heart of the city at Civil Lines has been recently refurbished. It procures milk from farmers in the adjoining villages in the region.

The NDDB is working on an ambitious plan of expanding it reach in the region for which it is all set to invest Rs 65 crore. It is expanding the Nagpur dairy plant and setting up facilities for producing about 5,000 litres per day of fresh dairy products including curd. The work is underway and it would be completed very soon. Apart from this, it also planning to set up a new dairy plant on a 20-acre plot at Gove Bhiwandi, near Mumbai with an investment layout of Rs 129 crore. The construction work is slated to start from the first half of 2018.
