Staff Reporter,

Local body elections have become prestige issue for BJP and Congress. Both parties are busy in holding rallies and public meetings in poll-bound local bodies to attract the voters. Moreover, they are also cautious enough against the rebel factor and are expelling them from time to time.

On Wednesday, Congress expelled half a dozen rebels. Their names are: Tara Saurav- Saand, Nagar Parishad Chanera district Khandwa, Asha Mahendra Bharti-Nagar Palika Parishad Sarni, District Betul, Sanju Rathore, Nagar Parishad Mandelshwar district Khargone, Rashim Marabi-Nagar Parishad Bichia district Mandla, Ekta Jaiswal-Nagar Palika Parishad Nainpur, district Mandla and Lalbahadur Vanwasi-Nagar Parishad district Dindori.

BJP is also taking strict action against rebels for contesting election against official party candidates. On Wednesday, BJP expelled Vijay Mahajan for fighting election against party candidate in Bhikangaon Nagar Parishad in Khargone district. Mahajan has been expelled for six years.

In the meantime, BJP is busy in hectic canvassing of party candidates. It is using Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in rallies being organised to attract the voters. On Wednesday, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed public rallies in Pali Nagar Parishad of Umaria and Jai Singh Nagar. He reckoned various public welfare schemes launched by his government and appealed people to vote in favour of party candidates. BJP State President Nandkumar Singh Chouhan had addressed public rally in Thandla, Petlawad and Jhabua. On Thursday, CM will address rallies in half dozen local bodies in Dindori, Nainpur and Mandla.

Congress is also sweating hard in canvassing of local body election. The only difference is this that its major faces are keeping distance from the canvassing while BJP is using CM, Ministers in canvassing work.

The outcome of local body elections will cement the positions of political parties. BJP is confident of sweeping the local body elections while Congress is fraught with the challenge to get as many as seats in local bodies to strengthen its roots in local bodies of state.
