JLN Hospital and Research Center, Sector-9 run by BSP has taken an initiative to provide medicines to the private patients visiting the hospital in cheaper rates. Under this the Medical and Health Services Department of BSP is making arrangements for opening a Generic Medicine Pharmacy at the hospital premises. For opening the medical shop the process of contract with Hindustan Latex Limited is in progress and the pharmacy will function under Amrit Pharmacy Mission.

It needs a mention here that the proposal for opening a Generic Medicine Pharmacy in the hospital premises was brought in by CITU during a meeting with the hospital premises in the presence of BSP-CEO, M Ravi. After this the hospital management held discussions with Hindustan Latex Limited and began the procedure and as soon as the contract gets confirmed the functioning of the Generic Medicine Shop will commence.

As per experts the cost of generic medicines are about 30 to 60 percent less than that of the branded medicines of private companies. It is so because these medicines are prepared by the government and are then made available to the patients at reasonable rates.

As per hospital sources at an average around 100 to 120 patients are admitted in Sector-9 Hospital everyday of which 30 to 50 patients are non-BSP and they had to purchase medicines from outside for which they spend a minimum of Rs 50000 to one lakh. Also about 500 patients daily visit the OPD of Sector-9 Hospital for treatment including the BSP, Ex BSP and non BSP patients.

Director (M&HS), Dr SK Issar informed that the process for opening a Generic Medical Store in the premises of Sector-9 Hospital is in progress and as soon as the procedure gets completed the shop will be opened.
