Major arms haul busted; guns, bullets seized

IN a major arms haul, police rounded up seven and recovered two revolvers, 3 country-made pistols, 38 live cartridges and a dagger from possession of the accused after erecting barriers at three different places in twin city of Bhilai and Durg.


In this connection, police registered the offence of illegal possession of arms and ammunition against the accused.
Police sources informed that the accused were identified as
L Josef alias Rakesh Anna, a resident of Camp-I, Bhilai; Lucky George alias Sonu (25), a resident of Contractor Colony, Supela, Bhilai; Ramanna Rao (26), a resident of Zone-1, Khursipar, Bhilai; Avinash Singh (38), Balvinder Singh (37), both residents of the place located near Sheonath river, Durg; Surjeet Singh (40), a resident of Imlipara road, Ambikapur and Rajvinder Singh alias Danny (40), a resident of Contractor Colony, Supela, Bhilai.


The police said that after a tip-off, in a joint operation, Crime Branch teams along with the officials and personnel from the police stations concerned swung into action and succeeded in laying hands on the accused at three different places including those of Idgah Maidan area in
Farid Nagar and Sabjimandi area of Akashganga, Bhilai and the place located near Sheonath river in Durg. The police teams recovered fire weapons along with live cartridges from possession of the accused and registered the offence against them under section 25 of Arms Act for indulging in the criminal act of illegal possession of the arms.


In this connection the police also seized a four-wheeler being used by the accused. Police sources further informed that as per facts recoded in the police investigation so far, among the accused Rakesh Josef alias Rakesh Anna is a Vaishali Nagar Assembly Constituency president of Shiv Sena who runs transporting business and also operate extortion racket in Sabjimandi area of Akashganga, Supela, Bhilai. He was possessing weapons and intending to eliminate his business rivals but he was apprehended by alert joint police team in course of working out inputs regarding arms supply and selling. He was arrested while roaming in a four-wheeler (CG07/AP/1144) along with his accomplices Lucky George and Ramanna Rao.

The police also said that Surjeet Singh was arrested for supplying weapons here after procuring them from Ambikapur along with accomplices Avinash Singh and Balvinder Singh. Rajvinder Singh alias Danny was arrested along with recovery of the fire weapon and live cartridges from his possession.
