Historic moment for Nagpur, says Brijesh Dixit

It was a historic moment for Nagpur Metro Rail as Nagpurians welcomed the Metro Rail coaches by beating musical drums and distributing sweets at Khapri. The three coaches of metro rail arrived from Hyderabad on Tuesday. Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) will conduct a trial run on August 15 coinciding with Independence Day. The two engines and six coaches will be given on lease for trial run in Nagpur.

The coaches arrived on special multi-wheeled road trailers in the afternoon. The coaches have been kept in packed condition at Metro’s Khapri depot and will be opened in presence of the Safety and Operation officers. The citizens of Khapri and members of Maitree Parivar welcomed the drivers and Metro Officers for bringing three coaches of the metro rail. Hundreds of people gathered to see the coaches
and celebrated this the memorable moment.

Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ said, this is a historic moment for Nagpur as the dream of Nagpur Metro is becoming a reality in few days. The three coaches arrived from Hyderabad, and the trial run will be held on August 15. The team of Metro Rail will complete the electrical connection of the rail.

Dixit expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road, Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari for extending support and guiding in accomplishing this Herculean task.

The Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) will certify the coaches for running on the track. The work of Nagpur Metro began one-and-a-half years ago under the leadership of Brijesh Dixit and the NMRCL has completed the first phase of this difficult task quite smoothly.

The team of 15 members worked hard for bringing the coaches to Nagpur.
Surprisingly, Hyderabad had acquired 57 engines and 171 coaches long ago but Hyderabad Metro Rail was unable to utilise them as the project was yet to be completed. On the contrary, the NMRCL worked hard and laid the railway track of 5.6 kms from Airport to Khapri to run Metro Rail.

Telangana Government accepted the request of Nagpur to provide two engines and six coaches on lease for trial runs for the metro rail project. The engines and coaches are to be leased to Nagpur for a period of three years.

The trial run in Nagpur will be for a stretch of 5.6 km of the total 39 kms. The Telangana Government has reportedly taken the decision to lease the metro rail engine and coaches to other cities as the same are lying unutilised for past three years.
