Staff Reporter,

Mayor Nanda Jichkar took stock of preparation of immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh in the city. The civic body is ready for the peaceful, eco-friendly immersion of the deity. The citizens will not face any problem during immersion, Mayor hoped.

Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar, Leader of Opposition Tanaji Vanve, Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, former Mayor Pravin Datke, senior corporator Dayashankar Tiwari, corporator Pintu Zalke, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare, Deputy Commissioners Dr Ranjana Lade, Jayant Dandegaokar, Chief Engineer Vijay Banginwar, Superintending Engineer Deepak Sontakke, Assistant Police Commissioner Jayesh Bhandarkar, and Health Officer Dr. Pradeep Dasarwar were present in the meeting.

Mayor also directed to follow directive banning idols made from plaster of paris (PoP) in the city. The civic body should start on-line process for giving permission to Ganesh Mandals and also start one window system. Despite creation of artificial tanks in every zone, devotees still immerse idols in Gandhi Sagar lake and Sakkardara lake. Therefore, the number of artificial tanks should be increased to reduce immersion in lakes. Some artificial tanks will also be placed near Naik Talao to stop immersion in the lake.

Mayor also directed to repair roads, street lights, and also display boards on the routes of immersion. The encroachments from the designated roads should be removed before the festival. The local body should reach to NGO’s to take their help for smooth and trouble-free immersion. The police and NMC should join hands to reduce traffic jams in the city. The small idols of deity should not be immersed in the lakes, she cautioned the civic administration.
