Rustam Singh informed that injection ‘Antara’ and tablet ‘Chhaya’ will be available in all Government hospitals and health centres free of cost

Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Rustam Singh inaugurated the free distribution of new contraceptive medium-injectable hormone ‘Antara’ and weekly oral pill ‘Chhaya’ during a function held in Bhopal on Tuesday. These new contraceptive mediums have been introduced under National Family Welfare Programme.


Rustam Singh informed that injection ‘Antara’ and tablet ‘Chhaya’ will be available in all Government hospitals and health centres free of cost.


On this occasion, Minister of State for Medical Education (Independent Charge) Sharad Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Central Family Welfare Programme Dr S K Sikander, Health Commissioner Dr Pallavi Jain Govil, Mission Director Dr Sanjay Goyal, Director Health Services Dr S Dhanraju were present. Rustam Singh informed that after taking ‘Antara’, women get protection for the period of three months. Likewise, after taking ‘Chhaya’ tablet, women get protection of a week. More importantly, there are no side-effects from these and they are safe for health. He told that State has, so far, received 20,000 ‘Antara’ injections and more than 20,000 such injection would be received very soon. Likewise, State has received 25,000 ‘Chhaya’ pills. “It is very necessary for the development of country and State that increasing population should be curbed,” he said.


Talking about swine flu and dengue diseases, he directed all Chief Medical and Health Officers (CMHOs) that they should popularise methods of protection from swine flu and dengue in big manner. People should be made aware of protection methods. By judging the intensity of infection, treatment should be started within 48 hours. The supply and availability of medicines, equipment and other necessary things should be ensured.
