CRIME BRANCH sleuths nabbed two from West Bengal and Jharkhand states in connection with their involvement in online cheating crime reported in Smriti Nagar, Bhilai. The police cell team handed over the accused to the police station concerned for further legal action in the matter.  The police said that the investigation revealed that the accused were indulging in cheating crime after hatching conspiracy. They used to set their prey after impersonating as bank officials and by opening bank accounts at different places for transferring the ill gotten money and to mislead police investigation in the matter.

Police sources informed that the accused were identified as Manoj Kumar Verma (20) and Shrideo Kumar Das (24), both residents of Maharajganj, Jharkhand. The police said that in his complaint, while citing the the mobile phone number of unidentified caller, the victim Sunil Sahu, a resident of Katulboard, Durg alleged that he was relieved of Rs 20,000 through online cheating crime by the unidentified caller who managed to obtain his CVV and OTP numbers on pretext that his ATM card was blocked and they would initiate measures to resume the debit card facility on his bank account number. The police said that on complaint the police registered the offence against the accused under section 420 of IPC for indulging in the criminal act of cheating.

Police sources informed that the criminal case was transferred to the Cyber Cell of the district police. As part of investigation the police coordinated with the concerned merchant company and ensure refund of the money to the victim. The police managed to ensure refund of Rs 3,000, the amount available for further transactions by the time the police investigated the crime and initiated necessary measures in the same context.

In the course of investigation Cyber Cell police team recorded the necessary details and identity of the accused in coordination with Jharkhand and West Bengal police. The police cell teams succeeded in zero in on the accused in Jamtada and Kolkata. The police arrested the accused and handed over them to Supela Police Station after seeking production warrants from concerning courts for further legal action in the matter. The police seized fake sim cards, mobile phones, bank passbooks from possession of the accused.
