Congress demonstrates against cow deaths

On the call of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC), Congress workers demonstrated in the State Capital over the death of more than 300 cows in three government-aided cow shelters in State. The Congress leaders along with cows took out a rally from Congress Bhavan that concluded near Ghadi Chowk. When the protestors marched towards Chief Minister’s official residence, dozens of Congress leaders were detained by police. Later, protestors were released. Police said that a total of 172 protestors including 22 females were detained and later released.

The Congress workers tried to protest in front of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh’s official residence in Raipur. Raipur Urban District Congress Committee President Vikas Upadhyay and others took along with them straying cows in protest. CPCC President Bhupesh Baghel, MLAs Satyanarayan Sharma, Dhanendra Sahu, Rajya Sabha Member Chhaya Verma, Mayor Pramod Dubey, CPCC General Secretary Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, Umesh Patel, Vikas Upadhyay, Gyanesh Sharma, Vikas Tiwari and other Congress leaders participated in the protest.

The protestors raised slogans against the BJP government. Bhupesh Baghel alleged that the BJP government had embezzled money meant to buy fodder for the animals. Congress demanded strict punishment to the guilty in cow death case. The CPCC President also questioned the silence of ruling BJP and RSS. Earlier, the Congress had demanded resignation of Animal Husbandry Minister Brijmohan Agrawal over the death of over 300 cows in three government-aided Gaushala, all of them run by a former local BJP leader.
