I-T raids on two business groups

raids conducted on Surbhi and Satyam Group of Institutions, tax evasion in crores of rupees unearthed

INCOME TAX (I-T) Department has raided two groups in State capital on Friday morning. Several incriminating documents suggesting tax evasion in crores of rupees have been recovered in raid so far.

Overall, more than one dozen premises including one in Goa has been recovered in raid.Sources in I-T Department said that, raid was carried out against a group run by Retired Executive Engineer of Central Power Discom Pradeep Saraiya and his business associate Santosh Ramtani.

Both of them are in real estate business and lives in sprawling houses in Surbhi Bungalows situated in Babadia Kalan. Surbhi Homes and Satyam Education Society are associated to this group. Under Satyam Education Society, group operates one engineering college.

When I-T sleuths visited Ramtani’s house, he tried to hide incriminating documents inside the mattress but to no avail.
The second raid was carried out against Sanjay Vijay Shinde. I-T department came to know that Shinde operates Karva (adventure sports) resort and Sonic Adventure. Shinde also owns a house in Goa and that too had been covered in raid apart from house in Nishant Colony in Bhopal. “We came to know that he was ex-senior employee of mines in Goa and his background is being traced,” informed a senior I-T officer. Karva Resort is one km away from Ratibad.

Prima facie, I-T department fathoms that both groups have done tax evasion upto Rs 10 crore each.
In raid, so far, cash around Rs 20 lakh has been found. The raid exercise is going on against both groups and is likely to continue on Saturday as well. Names of some prominent persons are coming to fore in the raid against Shinde’s group and I-T department is going through each evidence thoroughly before reaching to any final conclusion.
