Staff Reporter,

A team of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) from Nagpur, in co-ordination with the officials from Bhandara and Gondia districts, raided a clinic and a medicine shop run by a ‘bogus’ doctor Vasant Vishwanath Balbudhe at village Pindkepar in Sakoli tehsil of Bhandara district. Mohan Kekatpure, Joint Commissioner (Drugs), FDA, Nagpur Division, stated in a press release issued on Saturday that the team of FDA officials raided the clinic and adjacent medicine shop run by Vasant Balbudhe. However, neither the clinic nor the medicine shop had any sign-board. Both were being run in a building named Shivneri.

Balbudhe had got certificate of registered pharmacist in the year 2006, and also the degree of BAMS from Ranchi in the same year. Around the same year, Balbudhe got the degrees in Electropathy, Homoeopathy, and Naturopathy too. According to Kekatpure, Balbudhe told FDA officials that he had not got any registration as Registered Medical Practitioner in Maharashtra in Allopathy, Ayurvedic, or Homoeopathy practise. FDA officials lodged an FIR with the police to investigate how did Balbudhe manage to get these many degrees in one year. Once the investigations are completed, legal action will be taken against him, it was stated in the press release.

Enquiry by FDA officials revealed that the shop being run by Balbudhe was registered in the name of a registered pharmacist Ishwar Gadekar. Gadekar was shown as the owner of the shop -- Vishwanath Medical Stores. FDA officials took stock of the medicines in the said shop. After investigations, FDA officials found expired medicines also in the shop, and seized all of it, and suspended sale of medicines from the said shop. The action was taken by team comprising Mohan Kekatpure, Joint Commissioner (Drugs), FDA, Nagpur Division; Prashant Ramteke, Drug Inspector, Bhandara; Manish Gotmare, Drug Inspector, Gondia.
