Canines of poached Tiger in Pench recovered

Investigation in the poaching case of two Tigers in Pench Tiger Reserve is achieving progress with forestmen arresting two more accused and recovering canines of a tiger in Kolitmara village in West Pench on Saturday. It is reported that the team of forestmen arrested two accused - B B Parteki and Babulal Uikey.

During interrogation, Parteki confessed to have hidden canines of a tiger poached in Gol Pahadi in the agriculture farm of Uikey. The team consisting of D T Dude, Pandurang Pakhale, both Range Forest Officers from Kolitmara and Paoni respectively, and field staff then recovered tiger canines from the farm. Geeta Nannaware, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Pench, is the investigation officer. When contacted, Rishikesh Ranjan, Field Director, Pench Tiger Reserve, said that with the arrest of these two accused the total number of poaches has now gone up to 9 from June 29. The accused also confessed to have given whiskers to another person and forestmen are searching for him. The poaching case of two tigers right in the Pench Tiger Reserve at Gol Pahadi and compartment no: 274 in protected forest had created sensation in june month when the case came to light.

The poaching case: PoR - 67/1 dt 26-6-2017 was registered in Paoni range of the tiger reserve. Five accused are in central jail while two are undergoing forest custody remand. Investigation and searching of absonding poachers is underway.
