Sanitary napkins were distributed in Kashi Ram Nagar slum here on Sunday. The women in this area were not aware about the use of sanitary pads so they were introduced to the benefits of using the Sanitary Napkins over regular cloth. While people are busy shushing around anyone using the word period or menstruation, it’s shocking to know that more than 80% women in India still don’t use Sanitary Napkins and more than 1/3rd of these women belong to the slum areas. Women in India still use cloth and it results in various health issues.

The team of Kosal Katha, that has been running the Sanitary Napkins Campaign in Raipur in order to spread awareness among the slum women about the use of Sanitary Napkins, distributed sanitary napkins in the slum. The team members are Shriti Mohanto, Shubham Thawait and Diptendu Roy. A lot of people may not know that there are thousands of teenage girls who end up missing school during those days because they cannot afford the Sanitary Napkins or are not aware about it, said the members.

Team member Shubham said, “We are proud to say that our generation understands that menstruation shouldn’t be regarded as a taboo.” Kosal Katha will be conducting more drives in the coming weeks in nearby villages of Raipur. “We want to continue this and take this campaign to other cities and towns of Chhattisgarh,” said Shubham.
